VILLAGE

Murlo, which is a small and intact Medieval village, is located at the centre of a wild and undisturbed area, placed on the top of a hill among Val di Merse, Crevole and le “Crete” of Val d’Arbia. Inside its city walls, which are still intact and dominated by small dwellings, it is possible to visit Palazzo del Vescovo, today the site of the Archeological Museum, a building that hosts the prisons and the sixteenth-century “cathedral” of San Fortunato.

HISTORY

The characteristic castle of Murlo, of noble Etruscan origins (as reported in the findings in the nearby archeological areas of Poggio Civitate and Poggio Aguzzo), has a layout that dates back to the XII century, and it is indeed the site of an episcopal Feud from 1189 to 1778. After the end of the Republic of Siena, around the end of the Sixteenth century, it changes again embracing its contemporary traits.
